This is all fun

Barack denounced pastor, pastor denounces denouncing, puts on show for NAACP and Press Club. McCain denounces pastor's comments after saying he won't; Hill wants a showdown at the OK corral without sheriff, but Obama comes unarmed. And Dubya stands on the South Lawn and while doing nothing and accuses the Congress of doing nothing. Which is true but I don't need that windbag to tell me that. And your lapel pin won't get you into heaven anymore, either. What a wasted day.

Time flies

Thanks for the feedback on the last blog entry. Some of you either sent me separate emails or talked to me in person. The piece was sent off for publication to a few different places, but nobody is biting. I'll try again. Most of what used to be left-leaning, liberal web sites are becoming much more MSM and have recently begun copying and publishing the same articles by the same authors/writers/bloggers, over and over again. Very disappointing. And just like the MSM, if you are not an established name, you don't get published. Everybody needs the money, I guess. I keep wondering what we are all missing, when some really good article gets thrown in the wastebasket because it wasn't written by a Chris Hedges or Robert Scheer. I'm not saying mine was all that good, but I know I'm not the only one pounding on the keyboard, regularly. And I can't seem to be able to produce vitriol hateful enough to stir up the truly ardent readers or verbal slapstick good enough to compete with Andy Borowitz. So there you are.

I keep reading about all of the war-game board pieces (missles, battleships and crap) that are being put into place for a Bush/Cheney literal bombardment of Tehran and environs, but then nothing happens. Nick tells me that it is just left-wing hype and noise, but I'm not so sure there won't be something done to make the upcoming election as complicated and troublesome as possible. Will the Ultimate Stupid One really risk world war , military occupation in the US and complete international havoc, just to stay in office? Some think so. I shudder. This is all long past being funny or even useable fodder for comedians. We're in deep and don't kid yourself.

I have decided I don't like any of the candidates. I thought maybe this time around I could vote for someone in good conscience, but I think that instead of picking the lesser of two evils, it's now just been expanded to the lesser of these three. After the last blog, and my pleading for everyone to vote, I had two people ask me who I thought they should vote for. As nearly as I can tell, it's down to this: McCain is too old and addle-brained, too old-school, too well-connected and out of touch. He has no business being the President. Period. Elect him and you elect the greed and gluttony of the corporations. Besides that, he's dangerous. There's that damn bomb thing, again. Those are the good things I have to say about him.

Hillary is a greedy, hawkish, opportunist, who tells lies and makes up stories and can't be trusted. She just wants to be President for the sake of being President. If you think for a moment that she gives a damn about YOU, then you are a silly fool. Sorry. She is probably less reliable and predictible than banking on Puxatawney Phil to tell you when spring is coming. She should have another shot and a beer and go home to Bill. And he should be quiet. His mouth of late has wrecked his public memory and his legacy. Too bad.

Barack Obama is just a huge let-down. The only audacity of hope I have left with this eager, loquacious new guy is that beneath all that public portrayal of naive, feigned optimism, there is some shred of honesty left and that he is not,as some have reported, completely beholden to special interests and big corporate money. Take your pick, hold your noses and hope for the best. I hope you can afford to buy the gasoline to get to the polls.

Now that we all know that the "military experts" who have been wagging their tongues in the MSM have all been highly paid government/Pentagon shills, there isn't much left to read about the war that you can believe in. We lived, as a nation, for years, being told, lectured and preached to about the evils Communist propoganda machinery, and, lo and behold, we have our own homegrown, doublespeak. Dwight Eisenhower, the great military leader, warned us long ago about foibles and downfalls of the mighty military industrial complex, and nobody listened. Now George W Putinbush and the RNC have made it all a techicolor reality, with 4000+ dead, trillions in war debt and a collapsed economy. I read two separate pieces the other day, both decrying that Dick Cheney is, in fact, insane. Not only do I tend to believe that, I'm not at all surprised. The inmates are finally running the asylum, as they say.

I'm planting herbs today. I hope you can too. I'm going on with this activity despite the imminent threat of bombing Iran, the fact that TX politics are completely hopeless, the children of the polygamist sect are in grave danger of further maltreatment by the child welfare system and almost no one I know is happy or has reason to be. Be nice to yourself. Get outside and get some sunshine. Save your pennies and nickels. Tell us all how you are and why. Go ahead: admit you read this!

Meanwhile,
