Is it still Olympic stuff?

Keith Olbermann reminded us all the other night that some guy you might remember (Jim Thorpe?) was probably far better suited for the title of "best athlete ever" than Mark Phelps. Phelps is one helluva swimmer, but memories of the dozen or so other physical feats of awesomeness that Thrope did without breaking a sweat should tamp down the flames of hysteria and sensationalism a bit. Now if Phelps was 12 years old, like those little girl Chinese gymnasts, it might be another story. If those mini-femmes are 16, then I am still 24. And we know that is a lie.

I have a new bumper sticker on my truck. It says, "One Nation Under God...and under Surveilance". Then I find out that the city if Beijing has 300,000 spy cameras mounted throughout the city...and that US technology has made it all possible? Why am I the last person to know about these things?

Meanwhile, openly pugnacious Republicans are decrying the invasion of sovereign Georgia by the Russian Bear while ( as many others have pointed out) the U.S. does this all the time and calls it the "spreading of democracy". And of course W is in Crawford, after patting the behinds of female volleyball players in China, Cheney has disappeared (thank God) and Condi is making wimpering sounds in Tiblisi over the bad manners and style of the Russkies. (Someone just recently questioned whether or not she can actually play the piano: my guess is it is only one of the many things she cannot do.)

Oh, and the news reported this morning that we are sending another 12-15,000 troops into Afghanistan. I thought the trouble was in Iraq? Is this a mini-surge? It must be the right thing to do: McCain says that Petraeus is the best military leader in the free world. He must know Mark Phelps.

And what do you suppose that Condi does with W behind those closed doors in the oval orifice?

Here's something you should know, if you don't already and have been locked in a cave:

As I said before, God has spoken and SHE has chosen wisely.

My teeth are working out nicely, it finally rained here and now I need to mow the weeds.

Life goes on in Texas.
